Summary – TL;DR

Cap your Elemental Resistances and get the attributes your gems require to make sure you can use them all. The only mandatory unique item would for the low budget approach be 1x Clayshaper Clayshaper or if they are too expensive then 1x Cold Iron Point Cold Iron Point which are very cheap even at the start of a league.

Other than that to keep the budget down, we are strictly going for rare items with the possibility of some cheap Unique item options.

My quick list recommended approach for this build would be:

Armour Pieces

Many of the higher budget examples can either be purchased or crafted. When crafting, I would strongly suggest utilizing Craft of Exile to determine the cheapest approach to crafting the desired items.

Since most items in this build are Rare, the main focus will be to have as much Life as possible and sort any attributes and resistances so we can reach the desired caps. However, there are some juicy choices one can take to increase the build’s efficiency, although they will come with a higher price tag.

Helmet

Generic high Life, attributes, and resistance as needed to reach desired caps. For higher budget options we can get +1-2 to level of all minion skill gems which helps both our utility minions survival and our golems damage output.

Body Armour

For low budget you can simply settle with a Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa or a cheap 6-Link piece from trade, you should be able to find one with a bit of life at the very least that’s corrupted, make sure you get the correct colors which for this build would be BBB-RRR. Higher budget builds will be switching over to Energy Shield base and use a Incandescent Heart Incandescent Heart.

Gloves

Generic Life gloves with any resistances and/or attributes as needed:

Boots

Look for high Life, attributes, and resistances as needed. Higher budget options are rather limited in this slot. Getting “+ level of Spectre gems” from an Elder pair of Boots is a nice touch, but even for high budget I wouldn’t personally bother. Instead, I would go for high Movement Speed as my priority on top of the defensive stats.

Belt

The belt comes with a variety of options.

For a lower budget version, you can use any belt, preferably a Stygian Vise Stygian Vise due to the jewel slot, with high Life and attributes and/or resistances as needed.

I would personally use a Darkness Enthroned Darkness Enthroned and smack in properly rolled Ghastly Eye Jewel Ghastly Eye Jewels with high Life rolls and the modifier “#% increased Minion Damage if you’ve used a Minion skill recently.” This belt makes all modifiers from the 2 jewels you place in it scale by multiplying them by 1.75 making it competitive with very expensive normal belts as it grants lots of additional damage.

Accessories

Amulet

The low budget version literally only wants Life, resistances, and attributes (if needed) on this slot. The Summon Carrion Golem Summon Carrion Golem is tagged as a Physical skill, so we can increase their damage output with a “+1 level of all Physical skill gems” mod on the Amulet, which will cost a bit more. Here’s an example of such an Amulet:

Anoint

The anoint you want is Juggernaut.

Rings

Rings need only high Life with resistances and/or attributes if needed. With 3.19 Lake of Kalandra we now have the possibility of finding Bone Rings which can roll minion related modifier, those would be ideal, as long as you cover the life roll & any needed resistances and/or attributes.

Weapon

Most optimal would be to run with a Clayshaper Clayshaper, however, if they cost too much you can always settle with a Cold Iron Point Cold Iron Point. Prior to these weapons anything that grants + levels of either all spell skills, minion skill gems and/or physical skill gems will suffice.

Flasks

Flask set-ups are almost always a matter of personal taste when it comes to what utility flasks to use. However, I will list the set-up I’ve been using for a smooth play experience. 4 “Transgressor”, “Masochist’s” or “Flaggelant’s” Quartz Flask Quartz Flask Defensive layers with a Prefix modifier to help sustain flask charges, the suffix can be whichever you feel like
5 “Transgressor”, “Masochist’s” or “Flaggelant’s” Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask The obvious movement speed flask with charge sustain prefix modifier, the suffix can be whichever you feel like

Jewels

Minions builds almost always use the same type of jewels. We want to have an eHP increasers, which for this build means a Life roll. The main damage modifier we are looking for is only available from Ghastly Eye Jewel Ghastly Eye Jewel which is the “#% Increased Minion Damage when you’ve used a minion skill recently”. Anything besides those two modifiers can be either attack speed increase for your minions or added physical damage for your minions. Since the removal of Conqueror’s Efficiency we do need at least 1 rare jewel with “Increased % mana reservation of our aura skills” to make room for all the auras.

Other desirable modifiers include Taunt or Blind on hit for your minions. These modifiers are also exclusive to the Ghastly Eye Jewels.
